here we go again

October 30, 2009

We live a few houses away from a public school. So as I was in the shower this morning, I hear children singing “Walang pasok” (no classes) over and over again.

So when I opened my Twitter, it was only then that I read that Storm Signal number 2 has been raised over the metro. But outside, aside from overcast skies, there was no indication of the approaching storm. No rain and no strong winds. The calm before the storm I guess.

We’ve all been through this before. After Ondoy and Pepeng, it’s but normal to get scared and paranoid. So early as now, stock up (NOT hoard and panic buy) on food, pet supplements, candles, and batteries. List down emergency hotlines and don’t forget to charge your cell phones. You all know the drill.

Be safe everyone.

get up

nope

What’s a handful of hours spent in line to get registered compared to six years of my future?

-Kristin Facto via Twitter

We whine a lot. We blame the government for almost everything that goes wrong with our country. And yet we ourselves don’t act. We turn the other cheek and ignore everything that’s going wrong. I guess we got fed up with all the issues that we simple don’t care anymore. We’d rather devote our time to looking for the best eye wrinkle cream or that shopping bazaar next weekend. Apathy is rampant.

But there is hope. And that starts with you moving your butt and registering for the coming elections. It’ll be six years before you can do that again. You don’t have anyone to blame but yourself if he/she turns out to be another NOPE.

Here’s how!

grilled chops

We had such a great and delicious weekend last week that I’m seriously considering of having/doing it again.

We were at my inlays and I was craving some chops so I asked Riza and her cousin to buy around 2 kilos worth of thinly sliced pork chops for the whole family. It was then marinated in oil, butter, and a few herbs. While they were doing that, I put some coals on the grill and started lighting it. By the time the chops were ready, the coals were scorching hot! Just a few minutes on each side and they were ready.

We also had some grilled eggplants, red egg mixed with tomatoes, and broccoli and crab salad. Of course, I didn’t hold back. I figured I’d just find the best weight loss pills and throw my diet out of the window for this feast. Everything was delicious! I want to have that again this weekend.

mummy costume after all

October 15, 2009

Riza and I were in Mall of Asia last night frantically searching for Yuan’s costume for a party this Sunday. I never thought that finding a costume for one year olds can be so difficult. There should be free web directories for stuff like this in the Philippines. It will make searching for stuff you need locally easier. I wish more companies can invest in a website. Every thing is online nowadays.

Anyway, most of the costumes we see in the malls are for toddlers and grownups. But we saw this terribly cute bumblebee costume at Toy Kingdom that was just perfect for Yuan. But we didn’t buy it. It came with such a hefty price tag of Php1000+. So guess it’ll be that improvised mummy costume after all.

weekend party

October 12, 2009

kid costume

We’ve got a full weekend ahead.

On Saturday, our friend Nang will have her daughter’s baptism, and Riza is set to make around 30 cupcakes. We already bought the supplies last weekend, and Riza plans to make the cakes on Friday. We can finally see Nang’s cute and chubby little princess.

Then on Sunday, our friends T2rad and his wife Grace will have their son Zach’s first birthday. It’s going to be a costume party for kids (and for a few grown ups I’m sure). Of course Riza and I are all set as I plan to wear my tuxedos and Riza will wear her wedding gown! Ok, I’m kidding! :)

Anyway, we’ve been searching for a costume for Riza’s nephew Yuan but can’t find anything decent, and we’ve been to two malls already. We’ve been joking of dressing him as a mummy. That way, we’ll only need a roll of tissue. But at this rate, there’s a very big chance he’ll be a mummy alright!
