travel necessities
February 17, 2010About a week or two before our trip, with the excitement slowly trickling in, I started gathering as much info about Singapore.
One great travel advice I read and try to follow is that travelers must research as much and as early as they can about the place they are going to. That way, they can plan on how to efficiently maximize their time. Also, they might find great deals for early bookings. This way, they have enough time too to choose the best, and maybe the cheapest, hotel.
Researching about Singapore and how to go around was initially confusing because most of the sites and forums I saw mention street names and LRT/MRT stations like Orchard Road, Joo Koon, Pasir Ris, Tampines, Bugis, etc. I initially thought that we could just hire a cab, give him the address, and off we go. But I read that taking a cab is quite pricey (better save that for buying the best fat burners), which was why many people, even the locals, took the MRT/LRT. Only after familiarizing myself with the MRT/LRT stations did I fully appreciate the tips I saw. Somehow, I was informed on what to expect and how to move around.
After downloading a copy of the MRT/LRT system map, I e-mailed a copy to those coming with us. One tip I got off the Internet was to print a copy of our itinerary, along with flight details, just in case custom officials ask us.
So before leaving for the airport, make sure that you have printed copies (for you and your travel buddies, just in case they forgot and avoid the hassle) of your flights details, your itinerary, and a map (in this case the MRT/LRT system map).
More about Singapore on my next posts.
life’s a beach
February 10, 2010I’d like to delay my posts about our Singapore and Kuala Lumpur for a bit as I’ve yet to pick the photos. Also, right now, Riza and I are longing for a trip to the beach. I don’t know. Maybe because it’s starting to get really hot. And nothing compliments a hot day than a quick dip. If only it’s as easy as hiring cross country movers, right? It’d really be something if we could work while there too, which would be a good excuse to use the company’s work-at-home program, only this time in out temporary home at the beach.
of Singapore and sofa
When we were in Singapore, we stayed at R.’s (KG’s friend) condo unit. And in R.’s unit were a couple of sofabeds, one of which Riza and I used. It looked similar to this, only it was in leather.
But the other sofabed in R.’s room is the one that we had been lusting over for the longest time (as I mentioned in my other site here). So I searched online for modern sofas and checked their online prices. In Singapore, it’s just 149 dollars. Singaporean dollars, that is. Which is actually just Php5000. Pretty cheap, right?
But that’s in Singapore.
I found a local reseller here in manila, and I sent them an inquiry. It’s about Php25,000. Boohoo! The shipping was Php20,000? And now I’m obsessed at how much shipping a two-seater couch from Singapore to Manila really costs. Any idea?
awesome news
February 2, 2010About two weeks ago, while driving home from work, my wife and I had this conversation.
Rico: I think we should change our name?
Riza: To what?
Rico: I think “Bugok” would be adequate. Rico Bugok. It kinda has a nice ring to it.
Riza: Why Bugok?
Rico: Well, we’ve been trying to have a baby for a year now. And since we’re not yet pregnant, we have bugok eggs!
Well guess what? We’re not bugok after all.
We found out three days before leaving for Singapore and Kuala Lumpur that Riza is pregnant. We were so excited that we immediately told our parents and friends, and called my parents in the province using our Bluetooth headset. I knew it! It’s going to be one awesome year!
