extra time

June 30, 2010

free time

I’ve been complaining to my wife Riza about the time I loose everyday traveling to and from school. Well, I finally figured out how to almost cut my travel time to school in half. Yup! In half.

You see, I had an exam on my first class (Japanese language class) one time last week so I thought I’d go to school early. And I did arrive early. So early in fact that my usual 1.5-hour travel time only took about 45 minutes! For the first time since I started school, I was able to have a proper breakfast. And by proper meal I mean fried rice, egg, and ham. And you know what? I guess I was feeling so good that I did very well on my exam! Oh yeah!

Ever since that day, I’ve tried to be as early as possible. And my extra time has all been spent studying and/or catching up on lessons, and of course eating breakfast. :) Just like onecall coupons, those few extra minutes are priceless!

great idea

June 25, 2010

Since I’ve been wearing slippers all day long, when I got home one night, I thought I’d wash my slippers. Then, I had this great idea of further soaking it in soapy water. When I got up the next morning, another great idea hit me. Maybe it’d smell even better if I didn’t wash it. Sounds like a good idea, right? So I just dried it. It was a little bit sticky but I figured it’d further dry in a bit.

So the rest of the day was ok, apart from the slightly sticky slippers, of course. On my way home, while getting off from the bus, it started to rain. You know how it rains almost every evening, right? So I was hurrying because I was carrying a borrowed Linksys router on my bag and I didn’t want it to get wet. Naturally, my feet got wet. And that’s when the trouble started. My slippers got so slippery that I was slipping!

And so I did the only thing I can. I tried washing my slippers thru the rain. :) And if you must know, I never soaked my slippers again.

weird weather

Have you guys been noticing that it rains almost every late afternoon or early evening? Did you also notice how heavy it is? And sometimes, a strong blowing of the wind accompanies it! Pretty weird, right?

One late afternoon last week, I was waiting for a ride in a shed in UP when it started to rain. And what started to be a light downpour suddenly transformed into what looked like a full blown storm, complete with strong winds. Fellow students waiting with me in the shed immediately retreated to the nearest buildings. The wind was so strong that we were drenched in minutes inside the shed! Some people tried to protect themselves with their umbrellas but the wind was making it difficult for even. Some umbrellas even folded up!

And the weirdest thing about it was that it was all over in a few minutes too. I also noticed that some trees were uprooted and on the ground. The pond filters caught a lot of dead leaves and some garbage and thus resulted in a little flooding. Good thing I was wearing slippers!

I don’t really know what’s happening and/or what’s making this weird weather but I have a hunch we have something to do with it. And I think we all should be doing what we can in taking care of our surroundings.

if I could teleport

June 18, 2010

Actually, I just realized that all that weight loss isn’t really from commuting. The past weeks have been toxic. Really toxic, like Asbestos cancer toxic. It seems like we have an exam and/or exercise almost everyday. And I’m having a hard time keeping up. The discussions are fast paced. And you know how when you miss understanding one concept and you move on to the next you end up being more confused!

I’m having a hard time focusing on my studies when I have other matters to take care of. I can’t help but get worried now that Riza’s on her own. Ever since we got married, we’ve always been together. And now, we’re separated during the day and only see each other at night, by which time I have very little energy left. And when that happens, I fall on our bed and snore till my alarm wakes me up.

I’m also juggling some extra freelance work for some moolah. I have to contribute somehow.

And did I mention that I loose 3 to 4 hours everyday from the commute. That’s the real killer.

If only I can teleport. If I could get those 4 hours back, imagine how much I could do. My life could be more productive and less stressful.

commuting benefits

A few weeks ago, Riza decided to clean up our closet and give out clothes we no longer use. She stacked them up in one corner and told me to sort those I’m willing to let go. I saw an old shirt I haven’t worn for a while and decided to see if it still fits. And guess what? It does! Ever since I started school I have been noticing some gradual weight loss. All that walking and commuting is so much better than the best weight loss pills around. And very cheap too!

But seriously, I really am losing weight. Riza actually noticed that my tummy is starting to flatten. Compared to the huge piece of car tire suspended on my midsection, it has reduced to, uhm, maybe a bike’s tire. It’s still there, right? But if this keeps up, I’ll loose it all eventually. I never thought I’d say this, but commuting does have its benefits.
